Dr. Angelique Carney

Rev. Dr. Angelique Carney Howse is an ordained minister, public health professional and scholar based in Atlanta whose work joins faith and wellness. In her own words, her mission is “to uplift, educate, and empower,” whether in the pulpit, the classroom or the community.

She earned her Doctor of Ministry in 2024 from the Interdenominational Theological Center, graduating summa cum laude, with research on cultivating “wellness as wealth” in marginalized communities. She also holds a Master of Public Health and a B.S. in Health Sciences from Tennessee State University, and in 2025 began a PhD in Africana Women’s Studies at Clark Atlanta University.

Dr. Carney Howse is the founder of Raising Holy Health Ministries, a holistic health nonprofit focused on spiritual wholeness and physical wellness in Black Church spaces, and hosts its podcast, Raising Holy Health: Merging Ministry and Medicine. She is a licensed and ordained preacher in the National Baptist Convention USA, an endorsed clinical chaplain, and a lecturer on theology, health and social justice.

In April 2024, we met Dr. Carney on the Atlanta University Center campus to celebrate her Doctor of Ministry with a set of graduation portraits as bold as the achievement itself.

Dressed in rich red-and-black doctoral regalia, she moved between the brick buildings, green lawns and library steps of the AUC with total confidence. We captured confident full-length strides across campus, quiet moments on the stair rail, and big, joyful laughs that show just how much this day meant. A few frames with fellow graduates on the library steps round out a story of community, pride and hard-earned celebration.
